Hybrid Innovation

Hybrids are here to stay

That's because no other technology can offer cleaner emissions, increased fuel efficiency and surprising power - without compromise. As we continue to innovate, explore alternative energy sources, and perfect new technologies, hybrid technology will always play a role - the central platform in our pursuit of sustainable mobility and the "ultimate Eco-car".*

NS4

Toyota revealed the NS4 advanced plug-in hybrid concept vehicle at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Powered by a next-generation Hybrid Synergy Drive plug-in system - including significant reductions in component size and weight - the NS4 features longer all-electric range, faster acceleration and even greater fuel efficiency than our current plug-in technology.

FCHV & FCV-R

Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicles are the closest thing yet to an ultimate Eco-car. Fuel cells produce electricity from a reaction between environmentally friendly and readily available hydrogen and oxygen, emitting water as the only by-product. Using fuel cells in place of a traditional gas engine in a hybrid system would simultaneously address bth energy and emission challenges - and pave the way for a radical re-shaping of the vehicles we drive today. Our latest fuel cell concept is the

FCV-R, a highly practical and stylish sedan that is planned for launch in 2015.

EQ

The Scion eQ is an all-electric vehicle that takes advantage of Scion's production iQ's already nimble dimensions to create the ideal urban commuter. Building on Toyota's experience gained from hybrid and plug-in hybrid development, the eQ is equipped with a newly developed high-output lithium-ion battery and replete with energy conserving features - including an integrated regenerative braking system, and a heat pump air conditioner - and capable of traveling 80 km on a single charge. More than a concept, 90 eQ's are being in used in urban-based car-sharing programs in the U.S.
