The new Tacoma TRD Pro is built on the TNGA-F global platform, which it shares with the recently released Tundra and Sequoia models. Similar to its larger counterparts, the Tacoma features a sturdy chassis made from high-strength steel with blanking and laser welds, resulting in improved rigidity compared to the previous generation. To reduce weight, aluminum is used in the upper body of the truck. The frame crossmembers have been reinforced for enhanced durability and the ability to carry overlanding accessories like rooftop tents and camp fridges. The TRD Pro distinguishes itself with exclusive Fox 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks, a TRD Pro-stamped front skid plate, and unique TRD Pro badging and grille. All models come with integrated attachment holes on the roof for easy installation of roof rack rails, and a roof channel sealer ensures a tight seal. The steering gear box features a newly constructed front cross member for improved rigidity and handling, while the rear frame end includes a new high lift jack point for added convenience.
The Tacoma TRD Pro comes standard with advanced technology and upgraded information screens that bring a range of significant enhancements to the interior. The cabin features a standard 14-inch touchscreen display — larger than what's offered on lower Tacoma trims. This multimedia touchscreen showcases Toyota's latest Audio Multimedia system, which was first introduced in the 2022 Tundra pickup and developed by Toyota's Connected Technologies team based in Texas. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, providing seamless smartphone integration. It perfectly complements the standard Qi wireless charging pad, which offers enhanced power output for convenient device charging.
Additionally, there is a USB-C data and charging port integrated on the right side of the display, along with dual USB-C charging ports in the front row, also available for rear passengers. The TRD Pro comes standard with a premium JBL audio system and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster featuring four different display styles, giving the cabin a refined, tech-forward feel to match its off-road capability.
The Tacoma TRD Pro is powered exclusively by the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain — the most powerful engine ever offered on a Tacoma. This system combines a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48-hp electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission, drawing power from a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack. The result is a total system output of 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque — nearly double the torque of the previous-generation Tacoma V-6. The eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) is standard, optimized to deliver seamless power delivery both on-road and on the trail. With a maximum towing capacity of 6,500 lbs, the TRD Pro is one of the most capable mid-size trucks available.
For context across the broader Tacoma lineup, other grades offer a standard 2.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 228 horsepower in entry-level SR trim, or 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque on mid-grade models. An available six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT2) with automatic rev matching and anti-stall technology is offered on select trims. The TRD Pro, however, comes standard with the i-FORCE MAX and the ECT-i automatic — delivering the full measure of Tacoma performance right from the factory.
Every 2026 Tacoma model is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a comprehensive package of advanced safety and convenience systems by Toyota. The latest version of TSS on the Tacoma benefits from upgraded system sensors that offer enhanced detection capabilities. This suite of cutting-edge features includes:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Road Sign Assist
- Automatic High Beams
- Proactive Driving Assist
Alongside TSS 3.0, the Tacoma offers additional optional features to further enhance safety. These include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), which helps detect and notify you of vehicles in the adjacent lanes, providing an extra layer of awareness. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) is also available, which assists in detecting vehicles approaching from either side while reversing, ensuring a safer backing-out maneuver. It provides visual and audible warnings to alert you of potential hazards. Additionally, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) comes as a standard feature, aiding in preventing the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an incline.
