The new Tacoma truck by Toyota is built on the TNGA-F global platform, which it shares with the recently released Tundra and Sequoia models. Similar to its larger counterparts, the Tacoma features a sturdy chassis made from high-strength steel with blanking and laser welds, resulting in improved rigidity compared to the previous generation. To reduce weight, aluminum is used in the upper body of the truck. The frame crossmembers have been reinforced for enhanced durability and the ability to carry Toyota's overlanding accessories like rooftop tents and camp fridges. All models of the Tacoma come with integrated attachment holes on the roof, allowing easy installation of roof rack rails. To ensure a tight seal, a roof channel sealer is included. The steering gear box has a newly constructed front cross member, which adds rigidity and improves steering input and handling dynamics for the driver. Lastly, the rear frame end features a new high lift jack point for added convenience.
The brand-new Tacoma boasts advanced technology and upgraded information screens that bring a range of significant enhancements to the interior. The cabin features a cutting-edge 8-inch touchscreen, with an optional 14-inch display also available. These multimedia touchscreens showcase Toyota's latest Audio Multimedia system, which was first introduced in the 2022 Tundra pickup and developed by Toyota's Connected Technologies team based in Texas. This system supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, providing seamless smartphone integration. It perfectly complements the optional Qi wireless charging pad, which offers enhanced power output for convenient device charging.
Additionally, there is a USB-C data and charging port integrated on the right side of the display, along with dual USB-C charging ports in the front row, and these are also available for rear passengers. Higher-grade models come standard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster featuring four different display styles, while lower-grade models are equipped with a standard 7-inch gauge cluster.
The Tacoma will provide customers with two impressive and fuel-efficient powertrain options centered around a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The entry-level SR grades will offer this engine, delivering 228 horsepower and 243 lb.-ft. of torque. On all other grades, the power output increases to 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque when paired with the new eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). Enthusiasts will be delighted to know that there is an option for a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT2) equipped with automatic rev matching and anti-stall technology. Tacoma models with the manual transmission produce 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.
In an exciting development for the mid-size, body-on-frame pickup segment, the Tacoma introduces the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. This hybrid powertrain, available on TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and standard on the TRD Pro and Trailhunter halo models, combines the 2.4-liter engine with a 48-hp electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission. The electric motor draws power from a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain generates a remarkable total system output of 326 horsepower and an impressive 465 lb.-ft. of torque. This nearly doubles the torque output of the current-generation Tacoma with the V-6 engine, making it the most powerful powertrain ever offered on a Tacoma.
Every 2024 Tacoma model is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a comprehensive package of advanced safety and convenience systems by Toyota. The latest version of TSS on the Tacoma benefits from upgraded system sensors that offer enhanced detection capabilities. This suite of cutting-edge features includes:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Road Sign Assist

Alongside TSS 3.0, the Tacoma offers additional optional features to further enhance safety. These include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), which helps detect and notify you of vehicles in the adjacent lanes, providing an extra layer of awareness. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) is also available, which assists in detecting vehicles approaching from either side while reversing, ensuring a safer backing-out maneuver. It provides visual and audible warnings to alert you of potential hazards. Additionally, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) comes as a standard feature, aiding in preventing the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an incline.
